Imagine catching the day's sunrise as enter the shearing shed; perhaps you're a practical fix-it type who dreams of wide open spaces, fresh air and the chance to put your problem solving skills to work or maybe an 'office' view that includes animals over traffic. RIST students are encouraged to participate in wool classing competitions in Australia and New Zealand and in recent years our students have had success in these competitions.

TAKING THE NEXT STEP

Students who successfully complete their Certificate IV in Wool Classing are eligible for Australian Wool Classer Registration which will allow them to seek employment as a registered Wool Classer.

Students undertaking this course as a standalone, or as a Traineeship, can choose a wide range of industry-relevant units to suit their career goals and interests. Some of the topics covered are;

  • Work place practices and procedures
  • Wool preparation for classing
  • Wool characteristics
  • New technologies in clip preparation
  • Managing shearing operations
  • Industry supervision and documentation

The course also involves a work experience component in an operational shed.

For eligible participants, this training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

Can I get Credit for previous study/experience?

RIST offers the opportunity for students to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) in all nationally recognised training that RIST is able to offer.
