The Certificate II in Wool Handling is an entry level qualification to kickstart your career in the Wool Industry. Perfect for those new to the wool industry, at the 5 day shearing school you will learn how to carry out routine wool handling tasks, which include but are not limited to: wool pressing; board duties; penning sheep; observations & assisting in the preparation of the sheep for shearing and crutching.

National Program – Now taking enrolments for Weaners for Profit Course

 

Gain the knowledge and skills for optimal weaner performance and management with Weaners for Profit.

The course has been designed to follow the successful AWI & RIST’s Lifetime Ewe Management Course. This course assists farmers to analyse weaner performance, manage post-weaning, manage ewe lambs and hoggets during joining, early and late pregnancy as well as preparing hoggets for joining and reviewing ewe lamb performance.

The Rotary Club of Portland are generously subsidising a Weaners for Profit course for Glenelg Shire residents, under the Andrew Jack memorial fund for Agricultural training. There will be about 15 places available to commence training this Spring. Subsidised Course Fees are $650.

Heifers for Profit will give you the skills and confidence to manage your heifer’ nutrition to improve animal welfare increase future reproductive success, optimise stocking rates, and increase whole farm profitability. This course is ideal for a small group of 5 – 7 participants who are interested in learning new ways to find success on their farm.  Heifers for Profit currently open to producers for $1,540 (plus GST) thanks to the support of Meat & Livestock Australia through the Profitable Grazing Systems initiative.

Lifetime Ewe Management is the sheep industry’s most successful growers course, with over 5,000 course participants undertaking the course in the last 15 years!

Undertaking the Lifetime Ewe Management course gives participants the skills, knowledge and support to feed and manage their ewes efficiently. This nationally run course is ideal for a small group of 5 – 7 participants, meeting on farm six times within 12 months. Led by an experienced trainer, you will learn how to condition score, prepare ewes for joining, manage singles and twin-bearing ewes at different stages of their reproductive cycle, assess pasture & set targets.

Learn to Weld with our Introduction to Welding Short Course! Learn ARC and MIG welding, Safety procedures, Welding techniques, Equipment operation, Maintenance, Quality control and Inspection. Complete the course with hands-on exercises and take home your own welded bag trolley.

Short Course – Operate and Maintain Chainsaws

Gain the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate and maintain a Chainsaw – Enrol in our Operate and Maintain Chainsaw Short Course
 
Course details:
In the two-day course, students will undertake practical training in basic branch and limb trimming as well as sharpening and cleaning of a chainsaw. Stihl have supplied us with new chainsaws & PPE gear, so students have the best experience possible. Upon course completion students will obtain a sense of independence and confidence when using a chainsaw.

Accredited Short Course – Agricultural Chemical Skillset – AHCSS00074

Upskill your knowledge of legislation, safety and best practice when handling or applying chemicals – Enrol in our Agricultural Chemical Users Accredited Short Course.
Upon successful completion of this two-day course, participants are issued with a Chemical Users Certificate (Valid for 5 years) and are eligible to apply for the Agricultural Chemical User Permit (ACUP). Delivered with AusChem Victoria accredited trainers.
