To all RIST students, employers, parents, schools and trainers,

As regional Victoria re-enters Stage 3 restrictions, and school students return to remote learning, the RIST team are applying the guidelines we have been given by the Department of Education and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to ensure as much practical training can still take place in the coming weeks and months as possible.

The DHHS have indicated that where it is a necessary requirement for a student’s qualification, hands-on, skills-based practical training can proceed in person if strict safety measures are adhered to. This is a fantastic outcome for RIST students as it means we can continue to implement our very busy Semester 2 plans for students to undertake as much practical training as possible. The safety measures we introduced in July will continue to be implemented and adhered to – comply with the RIST COVID Safe plan, group sizes will remain capped at 5 students, full PPE and masks will continue to be required and temperature checks undertaken prior to commencing any sessions.

You Program Coordinators are currently working to finalise additional practical sessions for the coming weeks, and as session details are confirmed they will be in touch to advise more details. We are also happy to announce that RIST have now purchased a new John Deere tractor exclusively for student training activities. This will provide our students with a fantastic opportunity to develop their confidence and skills using what can be an intimidating piece of machinery for learners, in a safe and open environment at our Hamilton Campus.

We again ask that if you, a member of your household or a close contact are being tested for COVID-19, or has been confirmed as COVID-positive, you are to advise your Program Coordinator as soon as practical. If at any time you are uncomfortable about participating in any practical training session and feel your personal health and safety or that of those around you, may be compromised please do not hesitate to speak with us so we can work through your concerns with you.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact myself, Helen Read or your Program Coordinator at any time if you have any questions or concerns.
