In early September, we introduced you to RIST student Kiarah and her amazing Border Collie Boots. We shared Kiarah’s fantastic video featuring her working dog skills alongside “Boots”, with the video offering a snippet of insight into what students and their dogs have been learning and applying recently as part of their Certificate III in Agriculture, Care for and Train Working Dogs Unit.
Since the video was shared across our social media channels, it has been viewed (organically) over a whopping 6,700 times!
We thought it’d be great to get to know Kiarah a little more through this weeks Student in The Spotlight feature.
“Hi I’m Kiarah I’m 18 years old and am currently undertaking a Traineeship in Certificate III in Agriculture at RIST. I grew up and work on my 5th generation family sheep farm in Byaduk Victoria.
I’ve always had a passion for Agriculture growing up on the farm, but my passion for training working dogs only really started when Muster Dogs Season 2 aired during the same time as when I got a 3 month old border collie puppy Boots, in November 2023. This made me want to one day start my own business of breeding and training high quality border collies and continue my family farm.
When I’m not working I like to go to the bush or beach with my dogs and play fetch with them along the water’s edge
I really enjoy studying at RIST and meeting new people who have the same interests as me as well as learning new skills and different ways of doing things in the agricultural industry. My favourite highlight at RIST has definitely got to be working alongside Joe Spicer with my dog Boots”.
