On Monday 22 July 2024, Fifty year 9 students from Monivae College, Baimbridge College, Good Shepherd College Hamilton , The Hamilton and Alexandra College, Balmoral K-12 Community College , and Heywood & District Secondary College embarked upon the RIST Hamilton Campus for a Careers in Agriculture Day.

The day forms the Glenelg & Southern Grampians Local Learning & Employment Network (GSGLLEN) and RIST annual event, giving high school students insight into vocational training opportunities available in their senior secondary years locally.

Students got their hands dirty with activities in Shearing & Wool Handling, Virtual Reality Ag-Tech, Agronomy and Livestock Handling (with very cute Kelpie Pups!) and observed an autopsy undertaken by a local Vet.

RIST CEO, Bill Hamill, shared that The Careers in Agriculture Day is a hugely enjoyable day for all students and staff alike. “The feedback we receive over and over again from students is that this experience is just the insight and positive encouragement required when considering incorporating Agriculture as part of their VCE studies”.

If you know a local student who would like to learn more about studying Agriculture in 2025, We invite you to come along to our August Info Sessions which give prospective students and their support networks the opportunity to discover how they can balance School, Work and Studying Agriculture with RIST.
